Where the lab work meets a bottle.

For the past couple of years, we tried to give single barrels back what we thought they had lost — base blends designed for finishing and a seasons program built around variation. But even our best single barrels were better blended. We found ourselves handcuffed by a definition. So we made a change.

At Found North, our most important work begins at acquisition and doesn't end until the liquid is bottled — sourcing, reracking, tracking, sampling, blending. But this work doesn't always lead to a national release. Sometimes the most interesting whiskies we make can't be scaled, but we still want to share them.

Over the past six years, our component inventory has expanded in both volume and variation. We currently manage 638 barrels worth of liquid that has been recasked into 46 different oak species. In building this set of flavors, we have lived with our whiskies. We know how a given cask behaves with a given component, how time changes it, what it pulls from the wood. That familiarity is what makes blending work — and what no shortcut can replicate.
